As cool as I'm not

Yet another blog substituting for therapy...

Monday, January 27, 2003

So Red Eagle so lovingly created new blogs for Tand me. I won't be updating here at all, though I'm keeping my crafty blog at Blogspot for now. I'm probably going to end up combining them later, but for now I think it's best to keep them separate.

So the new url is :

It's been swell, but the swelling's gone down...

(5 points if you can identify where I swiped that from)

The Morning News takes on the weather.

whee!

Won an ebay auction that I *really* wanted, got something for somebody for V-day (can't reveal just yet!), managed to keep self from spending money at the 75% off Hallmark table, and saved time for my lunch hour by seeing if there was any good soup at any of the other cafeterias. yay!

Alex, I'll take backpedalling for $400.

Ridiculousness.

I was surfing around Drew's foodie links a little while ago, and I saw this recipe for salt encrusted chicken. I've been curious about this kind of recipe for a while, but I had only seen it used with fish. I think instead of making chicken pot pie for dinner on Sat., I'll do this just to see what happens. Then we can use the leftovers for pot pie on Monday night.

And things like this and this aren't making me feel any better about the world.

Some days the thing I love most about my job is that I can put on headphones and not have to talk to too many people the rest of the day.

The morning news has put me in an absolutely sour mood, and I'm so tired I can't shake it.

I hate feeling this cynical and jaded. It's annoying to feel powerless to effect any real change on the political landscape. Yes, I vote. Yes, I stay somewhat informed. But it's not enough. To really change anything you need money. Lots of it. And I don't have that.

In case you were wondering what I'm feeling so icky about, it's the recent Scott Ritter debacle. The Town of Republicans, I mean Colonie, dug up dirt on him and are now touting it all over the world making him seem like a child molester since he was one of the most vocal in opposition to the pending war.

*please note: He did something wrong and he should be punished for it. I'm not agreeing with trolling for sex in chatrooms and meeting underage girls. If you're going to troll for sex, at least use a little judgement in choosing your partner.*

It's a good reminder of why I regret ever wanting to work in Washington to make a difference. You can't be a voice in opposition to the powers-that-be, because every mistake you've ever made will be headline news a few years later. It's a dirty business, and I just don't have the stomach for it.

This or That

January 21, 2002: Potpourri

1. Super Bowl or World Series?

I hate to say it, since I'm more of a baseball person than a football person, but I'd have to say the Super Bowl. It's less commitment / better commercials.

2. Winter or summer?

Summer.

3. Look up numbers in the phone book, or call directory assistance?

Phone book, usually. I hate calling directory assistance unless I have to.

4. Mashed potatoes or French fries?

Why do I have to decide? I love them both (and it shows!). Especially fries in gravy (a heart attack waiting to happen). Yummy.

5. Hand-code your website, or use an editor (such as Front Page)?

Well, the only website I've had outside of blogger was a cheesy angelfire page. (It's not even worth linking.) So I guess I'll have to say editor.

6. Freeway or winding country road?

Country roads rule.

7. Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star Wars. I can't even count how many times I've seen those movies.

8. Disney or Warner Brothers cartoons?

Warner Bros.

9. When it feels chilly in the house: crank up the heat or put on a sweater?

Well, usually I put on a sweater or grab a blanket, but lately I've been prone to turning up the heat. It's been so freakin' cold in the house (well, below zero windchills will do that!) that I feel like I have to keep the heat up so the pipes don't freeze. What a lousy winter. It's a good winter to take up knitting, though.

10. CBS or PBS?

PBS.

Speaking of TV, we watched a bit of American Idol last night. What a guilty pleasure this show's going to be. :-) I didn't watch it last season, but I'm making an effort to catch it this year. I think I'm going to break down and get the tivo-like device that's being offered so I can be sure that we'll see it. And maybe I'll actually get to see Boston Public every once in a while...

Bowling update:

Still doing well. 141 (ugh.), 223 (!), and 189 (lost it in the last couple of frames). Still over my average (yay!) and got word that the league will be moving to Sunset in the fall next year, which is where I bowl on Monday nights and where my dad works. Yippee! Lanes that I know! And I won the 50/50 for my league, so I got an extra 25 bucks that I wasn't expecting. It offsets my knitting purchases for the week nicely. :-)

Until the morrow..

Bloggers are getting engaged, married, or talking about marriage everywhere.

I hate to say it, but I'm so jealous it's annoying.

Then when I hear people hedging about whether or not they should tie the knot, I get a wee bit angry that I can't. I feel like people should take their heterosexual privilege and run with it and be grateful that they can.

I know I shouldn't let it affect me so much, but I just can't help but think it's just totally unfair that simply because my intended is female and so am I that the federal government has to pass laws that we shouldn't be entitled to the bonds of matrimony. I mean, for crying out loud, felons can't vote in a lot of places, but convicted sexual predators and murderers can marry whomever they wish as many times as they wish. But as a law-abiding, tax-paying lesbian, I'm seen as a societal threat because I want to file jointly and share a last name.

This bothers me to no end. Then I'm bothered even more by my own apathy. Why haven't I agitated more for what I perceive as my civil right to be married? So I guess I'm going to find out more about getting more involved somehow, but in the mean time I'm going to stew about it and stop watching A Wedding Story on my days off.
